Gratitude Trees

Last Month I went on a Target run for just a couple of things. We all know that it is never just a couple of things at Target. As I wandered through the dollar bins these Gratitude Trees caught my attention. I immediately bought them for my kids. When I got home they were both so excited to hang their trees in their rooms. Madison started writing things she was grateful for right away. Bridger on the other hand wanted to think about it for a bit. A few days later he was ready and we wrote a few things down. I was so touched by both kids and how each of them are grateful for basically the same things. The difference is the way they showed it. Madison was quick to show gratitude and Bridger thought it over to make sure he acknowledged what was really important to him. Neither was wrong. Both ways had the same result.

I think its so easy for us to get frustrated when others don’t express gratitude the same way that we do. My Grandma Doherty wanted Thank You cards. My Grandma Flo wanted phone calls. My Mom just wants a quick hug and a thank you kiss on the cheek. One of the best gifts we can give those that we love is showing them gratitude the way that they need to receive it. It’s sincere. It’s personalized. It’s love.

We hope that as we go into this holiday season that you will take the opportunity to reflect on the things that you are grateful for, write a few down, and tell few to those that you love.
