Micro Goals 2019
How often do we hear the phrase, New Year, New You? Seriously what is wrong with the current me?! There is always so much pressure at the end of a year, beginning of the next to set these huge goals. Like I’m going to go to the gym everyday and lose 100 lbs by May 1st or I am going to stop eating all carbs or I am going to write my first novel and have it published by September. Having goals is a necessity to have a successful life, but what kind of goals you are setting is what ensures that you attain that success.
I have three goals for 2019. I call them micro-goals. This is because they are smaller goals that will lead me to the end result or long term goal that I have.
GOAL NUMBER ONE
Learn Hand Lettering techniques.
I want to learn new techniques that increase my creativity and ability to produce prettier gifts for people we work with and people we love. I LOVE cute signs. Like a lot. When I go shopping at Home Goods or Hobby Lobby, signs are what draw my attention. I love the cute sayings or inspirational messages. I love the fun color schemes. And I love love love the scripts. I ordered this book that was recommended to me by my friend Kaylee.

Kaylee has the cutest IG account. Follow her. She creates the most beautiful signs. She also does styling and has the CUTEST decor. Oh and twins. Who doesn’t love to see pics of twins?!
I also started following the author of the book, Valerie, on Instagram. She has really cute content plus I wanted to check out her style before I bought her book.
I ordered some pens too. I’m not sure that I even need them yet, but I wanted to be prepared. I got these because they have great reviews AND this same brand has different levels of pens ie beginner, advanced, etc. I like that there is room for growth even in the pens I use.

GOAL NUMBER TWO
Try new, healthy recipes twice a week.
This may seem like nothing major, but trust me it’s a huge change! I get so stuck in making the same stuff over and over. And generally they usually consist of a ton of cheese and noodles. So tonight I am making Red Chicken Curry, my first new recipe of the year. It’s from Chrissy Teigen’s new cook book, Cravings Hungry for More. This is also the first recipe that I have made from this book. I LOVED her first book and have high expectations for this book.
Now in an effort to be healthier in my food choices, I will not be adding the potatoes that are in the recipe and will be using brown rice or quinoa (we are debating still) instead of white rice.
GOAL NUMBER THREE
Walk my kids to the bus.
Again this might seem small, but when you go from not doing anything to doing this, it’s huge. This morning was the first day back at school and we walked to the bus. There are so many benefits to this!!! Not only the benefit of exercise, but just that time to be with the kids and no distractions. It’s a great time to talk. It’s a great time to mentally prepare for the day. And when we walk home it’s the perfect time to hear all about their day. And plus the views we get to look at aren’t bad either.
The another benefit is that by the time you get to the bus stop, you are all warmed up and ready for more. Troy and I will often then walk for at least another 30 minutes on the pipeline behind our property.
I’m excited to focus on my goals. I’m excited to celebrate my small victories that I know will lead to big victories. I’m excited to recognize when something needs to be tweeked and changed so I can continue to move towards the end result. I hope that you are able to create new micro goals for yourself this year that will create the successes that you want to have in your life.
I’m excited about these goals you’ve set! We talk about Lead and Lag measures in Business, with regards to measuring and tracking our goals, this is very much focusing on the small and measurable actions that produce greater results, i.e. LEAD measures. When i read between the lines I interpret your goals to be: Use your creative abilities to grow personally and professionally, Find new ways to eat new cleaner meals, and focus on physical and mental wellness each day as a Family; and you have created small measurable ways to reach these goals that make it totally doable!
I think these are incredibly well thought out and worhty goals. Thank you for leading us on this journey!!!
