Our Favorite Charity’s Annual Auction was June 2nd!
For the last 3 years now we have had the honor and privilege of being able to support our favorite local charity through their annual fundraising auction, which was this last weekend. The charity is a local 501 (c)(3) based in Carnation called Bridge of Promise. They serve to provide recreational, social and educational opportunities to the developmentally disabled. Their primary objective is to provide opportunities to get out of the house and into the community, which typically ends at age 21 when they can no longer attend public schools.
This year the Auction was called “Hand Made with Love”. Year after year they receive some incredible support from the community, both in the form of donations to the auction, and in donations made at the Auction. This Auction is their primary fund raising event and most of their budget for the upcoming year comes from this one event. For as long as we have been going, this even has been held at the Sahalee Country Club, which is an excellent venue, and never disappoints. For my Wife and I this is typically one of the better “Date Nights” we have each year. This year due to unforeseen circumstances, I attended with our 9 year Old Daughter, instead of my Wife Karen.
Typically we will pick up tickets to Games, Concerts, and Shows that will cover most of the years entertainment, and maybe a trip two, funny that Bridge of Promise also helps us socialize and get out into the community! Last year we won Tickets to all kinds of stuff that we really enjoyed! One thing that stood out was Katy Perry Tickets and a gift card for some fine dining, which we ultimately used for a Daddy/Daughter Date.
I can’t help but assume that this year, our Daughter was expecting to find out before anyone else, how many and which events we would be going to as she witnessed the action live, and in person. Well, she wasn’t too happy when one of the first items up for bid was a full set of braces including X-rays, exams, and retainers. When I started bidding you could hear her disappointment! She really, really needs braces, tho! We sometimes tease her about her “Shark Tooth”- its really that bad…
I’m so incredibly grateful to be able to have my kids get braces from someone who supports Bridge of Promise in this way, and to know that the money that we would have spent on the services, is going to such a great cause.
Another big change for us this year was to attend the Auction with Karen’s Parents and Brother. Her Brother Nick is severely disabled and has attended the Bridge Academy, which is the School Bridge of Promise has set up, for some time now. Karen’s Dad was asked to speak about halfway through the evening, and he is such an incredible public speaker! Arden shared some stories of the impact that Bridge has had on his son Nick’s life, and even shared a tender moment between father and son when he was told “thank you take me to school”. I cannot do justice to the story, so I wont try, suffice it to say that there was not a dry eye in the house.
If you are so inclined, we would love to have you join us at the Auction next year!

Bridge of Promise has made such a difference in Nick’s life. As he says, he loves going to school with his friends. The staff are incredible compassionate individuals. We are very blessed to have such a wonderful program right here in Carnation. It was fun to attend the auction with you and witness the amazing outpouring of love and support shown that evening.
Thanks for telling the Bridge of Promise story Troy, and for all your auction financial support. I greatly appreciate your kind words regarding my talk that night. It means a lot to me coming from you.
I’m so glad that you had such a great time with our girl at such an important event!!
